Been in sweden for about two weeks now, and so far i’ve been having an absolute blast. Being away is truly an experience, and even though i was dreading coming out of my comfort zone, i’m really glad that i did because i’ve never felt more independent! I’m really thankful for the friends that i’ve made these two weeks because they’ve made these cold, dreary winter days so much more bearable, and of course, it helps that there’s always something new to explore and people to meet! As usual, i’ll let the pictures do the talking. Stay tuned for the next update! Thinking of doing a post on what i’ve been cooking, since eating out is pretty expensive here in Gothenburg.

Sweden

Leaving for Sweden in about 10 hours for 6 months, not sure how i feel but i definitely feel very unprepared. Spending some time with my cousin & watching movies on my laptop makes the anxiety go away. Will definitely be blogging here, so stay tuned.

I just turned 23, and even though birthdays don’t mean as much as it did when i was younger, i really did feel the love from everyone, so i thought i’d share with you guys how my day went :) a heartfelt thank you to all those that have left lovely birthday wishes on facebook, twitter and instagram, especially to my family who’ve always been my pillar and strength, i love you guys.

Merry Christmas!

Just thought i’d drop by and wish all of you a very merry christmas in advance! You see, I just finished wrapping my christmas presents whilst listening to michael buble’s christmas album, and i’m very pleased with how they’ve turned out because i never ever wrap my gifts, and besides, gift wrapping is not my forte (you will see below)!

Will be spending christmas eve with the family and the theme for this year is blue/gold! Feeling pretty excited, not gonna lie, all ready to stuff myself silly with good food and wine. Shall posts some pictures tomorrow or the day after if i can! Its really the most wonderful time of the year.

In the meantime, have a listen to my favorite christmas song of all time. Don’t remember if i’ve posted this up last year, but here’s ‘baby it’s cold outside’ by Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer.

Next up, my birthday in 5 days time! :)

An Evening Walk

Went to the botanical gardens over the weekend and was really surprised by how lovely it really is! The air was crisp and cool and being close to nature really lifts your mood. On top of that, the family got to enjoy a lovely time in the open whilst listening to lovely tunes by a jazz band and an acapella group.

Hang on. I absolutely can’t believe that i’ve not made a blog entry in over a month! Good grief. Well, i’ve been terribly busy. First with exams, then i started temping whilst planning for my exchange to Sweden. YES I KNOW! how exciting right? I’m totally looking forward to travel and studying at the University of Gothenburg, but for now, i’ve gotta work my ass off to earn some money to replace the huge deficit in my bank account that is to come. Let me tell you, planning for an exchange is not the easiest thing in the world. There’s the residence permit (which takes years to get approved), applying for courses over there that can be mapped over to my degree program, student housing, yadayadayada, its a whole long laundry list and i’ve still got some kinks to work out before i’m good to go. Of course, i’ll be blogging in Sweden so.. keep watching this space :)

That said, i’m entirely excited for christmas and i thought i’d share what i’ve been wearing these days to bring some christmas cheer (and style) into the office!

The cousin got married over the weekend and it was a truly beautiful one. I can’t be happier for her. This shot that maddie posted on her blog took my breath away and i just had to share.

Milan

I love Italy, everything there has got this old-world quality, the meshing of the old and the new, the cobbled winding streets that surprise me each time i turn round the corner to discover something new and breathtaking, and the fact that the weather couldn’t be more perfect. I’m charmed by Italy, particularly Florence, but the Brera Picture Gallery (Pinacoteca di Brera) in Milan is the perfect place to go if you have hours to spare before/after your big shopping spree. It houses famous works by Andrea Mantegna, Caravaggio, Raphael and Hayez, just to name a few. The 4 hours i spent there was the highlight of my 2 short days in Milan, and i simply got lost in the beautiful works of art and would not have left if not for the fact that my company was totally famished and we had to grab a bite! Having said that, the gelato at Amorino (near the picture gallery) is a definite must try! Pistachio, hazelnut and chocolate comes strongly recommended.

Of course, a trip to Milan would not be complete without seeing the Duomo and the Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci. The latter was so well executed and i can’t believe the amount of time (20 years) it took to restore this amazing work of art which involved scraping off layer by layer to reveal the original piece of work. Other sights that we saw were the Sforza Castle, Arco Della Pace (which was strikingly similar to the Champs-Élysées in Paris) and Teatro alla Scala.

Of course, no trip to Milan (or Italy, for that matter) would be complete with daily servings of gelato and tiramisu. I swear, i’ve never tasted better in my life. Did i mention that Italian coffee is the best thing that was ever discovered? No wonder there isn’t a single Starbucks there.

With that, it’s time for us to move on to Florence! But in the meanwhile, here are some pictures i took in Milan, enjoy!

So much has happened

So much has happened this past week. After landing at 10pm on Monday, i had to drag my tired, jet-lagged body to school the next day for my first class of the week. That said, this past week has been nothing short of sheer insanity. In between getting back to the swing of things, i’ve got to sell/purchase textbooks, unpack, and catch up with the insane amount of readings this semester. Someone please tell me why i chose to take two sociological modules and an ethics module? Oh, that’s right. I didn’t have a choice since i was outbid on almost all my desired modules! Not to mention, Thursdays officially suck for me since i have three back-to-back classes that start from 1.45pm to 10.15pm. Needless to say, by 9pm yesterday i was on the verge of a major comatose.

Having said my peace, i must say that Italy is definitely one of my favorite countries! Everything there is so beautiful, and i didn’t even know how much i enjoyed myself until i met a friend for brunch this morning.

Pictures from Milan, Florence and Rome are coming (either tomorrow or the day after)! In the meantime, sit tight!
